Choosing School

Maresa MacKeith: Choosing Mainstream

Maresa was born in 1984 in Sheffield. She was adopted as a baby and moved to Nottingham. At age 5 she went to a special school and then left at age nine and attended mainstream primary and secondary schools from then on, with a year of home schooling between two secondary schools. She then attended a local college and went on to university.

Here Maresa talks about choosing a mainstream school with her Mum.

Who decided you should go into mainstream? Like a lot of my earlier childhood decisions, my mum Caroline, was hugely influential and she would often, always involve me but I would never really have the confidence to even think of going to a mainstream school if she hadn’t mentioned it. I was so hopeful to just be in education, so she helped with making those bigger decisions.
