I can always remember my parents being very proactive really and being – they wanted me to feel included within my community and be part of the mainstream and they always strived to do that, I think that’s reflected really in what I’ve been able to achieve.

My parents certainly are very contrasting in their approach to me. I mean they both want me to do well and they both wanted me to be part of the mainstream to have what they call independent living and my dad is very schooled up and knowledgeable about social model thinking which he did straightaway, you know, as I got towards adulthood. So my mum in that way being that overprotective she has made me think of those things, you know, if I’m going out somewhere where am I going to go, how am I going to get there, what’s my backup plan if it’s not accessible, what’s all this. And my dad’s just got that, you know, that thing to say, Dad part of it is just in my head as, you know, just go out and try it, you’ve got to experience some stuff if you want to be part of the mainstream. So those two contrasts are great for me.
